The Deveron River is a well-kept secret and anglers return year after year, generation after generation. The river is approximately 55-60 miles long and it flows from the Cabrach eastwards towards Huntly and then pursues a winding course through Turriff and finally flowing into the Moray Firth between the fishing communities of Banff and MacDuff.
The Deveron River fishing season starts on the 11th February and closes on the 31st October. There is always a chance of spring fish. Sea trout start from mid-May through to July. The grilse runs start in June and July and extend well into September and often into October. Excellent dry-fly fishing for Brown trout is available in April and May. It is a river of big fish and each season brings in some fish in the 20-30lb class. The British record for a salmon caught on fly came off the Deveron and weighted 61lbs.
